Exam Question Solver

Take any past paper question or practice scenario and input the lease parameters directly into the calculator. The engine produces exactly what an examiner expects to see: a properly formatted amortization schedule with the correct advance or arrears timing, interest computed at the effective rate, and a final period that closes precisely to zero with no floating point errors. Compare your manual workings against the output to identify exactly where you went wrong.

  • Handles any payment frequency from the exam: monthly, quarterly, or annual
  • In advance and in arrears timing modelled with different interest formulas
  • PV calculation verified against standard annuity factor tables

ICAP CFAP & ACCA Alignment

The tool is built specifically around the question formats and marking schemes used by ICAP in CFAP-1 and ACCA in Strategic Professional exams. Nasir Abbas FCA and Zubair Saleem's notes were used as the technical reference throughout development. The output format — with opening balance, interest, payment, and closing balance in four columns — matches what examiners produce in model answers and what markers look for in student papers.

  • Output format mirrors ICAP and ACCA model answer layouts
  • Past paper scenarios tested and verified against published solutions
  • Covers all examiner-favourite topics: modifications, S&LB, reassessments

Journal Entry Practice

The hardest part of IFRS 16 exam questions is writing the correct journal entries — knowing whether to debit the ROU asset or the lease liability, and which amount goes where. The engine generates every journal entry for the entire lease term, dated by period, with correct narrations. Day 1 commencement entries, period interest accruals, lease payments, depreciation charges, modification cascade entries — all shown in proper debit/credit format.

  • Day 1: Dr ROU Asset, Cr Lease Liability with full workings shown
  • Period entries: interest accrual and payment entries separately dated
  • Modification entries: Step 1 scope reduction and Step 2 remeasurement

Modification & Reassessment Scenarios

Lease modifications and reassessments are consistently the highest-mark and lowest-scoring topics in IFRS 16 examinations. Students struggle because each type uses a different discount rate rule. The engine handles all six types and clearly shows which discount rate applies in each case — the original IBR for CPI and GRV changes, and a revised IBR for term changes and floating rate changes. The complex cascading mixed modification is fully solved.

  • CPI and index change: remeasure at original IBR — no new rate
  • Term or purchase option change: revised IBR required
  • Mixed modification: Step 1 scope P&L entry then Step 2 remeasurement

Sale & Leaseback Practice

Sale and leaseback is the topic most students avoid because the three scenarios are genuinely confusing. Working through it manually with exam time pressure leads to errors in the ROU asset calculation. The engine shows the classification, the exact ROU formula used, the gain or loss calculation, and the complete set of Day 1 journal entries for all three scenarios — fair market terms, above market, and below market — so you can see the pattern clearly.

  • Automatic classification based on sale price versus fair value
  • ROU asset formula shown with workings: PV × NBV ÷ FV
  • Gain or loss calculation restricted to rights transferred

Disclosure Note Generation

Exam questions increasingly ask for disclosure note extracts rather than just schedules. The engine generates the complete SOFP extract with correct current and non-current liability split, the SOCI extract showing interest and depreciation for the reporting period, and the maturity analysis of undiscounted future payments in the three mandatory IFRS 16 time bands. Set any reporting date and the numbers are extracted automatically from the schedule.

  • SOFP: current and non-current lease liability split from schedule
  • Maturity analysis: undiscounted payments by time band with finance charge
  • ROU asset movement note: cost, accumulated depreciation, NBV movement
